Lumen Prints - Images made from Sunlight

These images are part of a series of lumen prints. Lumens are made by placing translucent objects, in this instance fruit, on black and white darkroom paper under a sheet of glass. By leaving these out in the sun for hours at a time the paper will begin to change color. The areas of paper covered by the objects stay a paler color or even white because the light can’t reach that spot. Natural juices from fruit or plants also cause the paper to turn a different hue.
I wanted to explore early photographic processes that didn’t require the use of a camera. The results of this experiment were surprisingly detailed. I love not being able to tell what you’ve got until after the image has been made.

This is the house that time forgot. Upstairs in a bedroom a couple pairs of dress pants, still freshly pressed, hang on the back of a door. Old photographs lay on the bed. In the living room two chairs sit side by side waiting...

Photo Restorations

These are a collection of digital photo restorations I have done. They show what can be done to improve the quality of worn or damaged prints. Corrections can improve: fading, color correction, scratches, tears, dirt or adding color to a black and white print.
